MITCAR, the all-Italian marque event arranged by our AROC East Midlands team, gathered at the grandiose Boughton House in Kettering for another gathering of all things Italian. As relative locals some of our members (were) volunteered as Marshals, Mr Mayes was particularly pleased as on his normal ‘day of rest’ from marshalling he found himself once again donning the hi-vis! Despite most of us being allocated the later shift, we all turned in at a decent hour, mithered the Coffee Shop and managed to get a coffee before shift and adjusted well to not having the normal ‘gazebo location’ shenanigans to attend to! The muted re-appearance of the Webb’s pop-up cafe had to be curtailed, due to the risk of ‘fat spatter’ on the lovely highly polished show cars of non section members and the predicted ensuing ‘un-desirable outcome’!
After shift it was time for another coffee and to look around the show of hundreds of fabulous Italian cars. In some small way we now felt part of the show which made for an even better experience.
Boughton House was opened specially for the event and we got to view some of the best-preserved baroque State Rooms in the British Isles and we could walk through the grand apartments of the house’s golden era. However some members seemed to linger far too long in the excellent armoury, but not hearing the sound of any duels or the clash of steel we can only assume they left the exhibits exactly where they were!
With the tour of the House complete, we could step out into the surrounding gardens and country park. A good day was had by all.
