June Monthly News Letter

Hi All
I trust you are well and have been enjoying the recent sunny weather!
If you own an S4 Spider read to the end!
That sunny weather came in perfectly for the Suffolk Drive from Diss to Dunwich, the route was clear all the way as long as you ignored the road closed signs AND turned off at the right point! Some did… When we got to Dunwich we were met by a healthy group up from the Essex Section making about 30 Alfas in total, a fine showing. Fish and Chips a sunny day, a big group of Alfas and friends and a beach walk, what’s not to like!
Sadly I missed the monthly meet at The Walnut Tree as I was a bit under the weather, I will see you at the Fur and Feather at the end of the month.
Our first section meet at the Cars and Coffee at Kersey Mill brought out 20 Alfas and a lot of interesting classic cars, not often you see 2 Countach’s together at a free event! I did rather fall for the very honest Ford Thunderbird, it was the one you want with the round rear lights! Photos of most cars on the section Facebook page.
COMING UP!

A Salutary Lesson for S4 Spider owners!
Details from Simon
Haven driven down to Spain and back earlier in this year in the Spider, we thought that we were bulletproof, one exhaust strap broken, easily replaced, fuel and a top up of oil.
Wrong, we took the Spider to Frinton.
On the way back the car disassembled.
Luckily 0.5 is miles away from home, the back bumper fell off. Again, luckily the car behind didn’t run over the bumper and helped me gather it up, nice bloke.
I hadn’t realised before that the fixings on the bumper metal mounting plates are attached by rivets. These corroded and the rear bumper fell off. Imagine when at motorway speeds and the rear bumper detaching into following traffic.
Ok, these are the photos, the ones with the proud rivets were the works in progress, the other the finished articles. Both are handed.
Neville Byford, very kindly stripped and painted the fixings, Matt located and riveted them with grease separating the aluminium and the steel.
The rear bumper also has 6 mm depth neoprene strip shock absorbers between the tub and the bumper, mine had perished, they have now been replaced. I think that their failure in turn contributed to the aluminium rivets’ failure.
So amongst the usual things, check your rivets!
I hope to see you all out and about during the summer.
Cheers
Graham
