Alfa Romeo reveals Edizione Luna Rossa across four-model range
Alfa Romeo has unveiled a new Edizione Luna Rossa special series, bringing the style and technical partnership with the Italian America’s Cup team to the Junior, Tonale, Giulia and Stelvio.
The new editions will sit at the top of their respective model ranges and follow the extraordinary Giulia Quadrifoglio Luna Rossa, the limited run of just ten cars which has already sold out. While that car represented the more extreme expression of the collaboration, Edizione Luna Rossa brings the partnership to a much broader selection of Alfa Romeo models.
All four cars share a recognisable visual theme inspired by Luna Rossa and the world of competitive sailing. A distinctive red version of the Alfa Romeo badge appears throughout, accompanied by a palette of white, black, grey and red, dedicated Luna Rossa detailing and individual interior treatments.
The collaboration itself goes considerably further than simply applying Luna Rossa branding to the cars. Alfa Romeo is the team’s Official Sponsor, but the relationship also encompasses technical development. Alfa Romeo engineers have shared expertise in simulation, vehicle dynamics and virtual analysis with Luna Rossa, while the two organisations have also been working together on software used to control the systems which operate the yacht’s sails.
The important date in the UK is 1st December 2026, when the new Edizione Luna Rossa models become available to order. The first cars are expected to arrive during the first quarter of 2027.
Junior and Tonale Edizione Luna Rossa
The Junior and Tonale receive a new grey exterior colour inspired by the Personal Flotation Devices worn by the Luna Rossa crew. A red Luna Rossa line runs along the side of the cars, while black and white exterior colours are also available.
Gloss Black exterior detailing provides further contrast, together with the red Alfa Romeo badges. Junior receives 18-inch Gloss Black wheels, while the Tonale gains new 20-inch Gloss Black wheels exclusive to the Luna Rossa edition.
Inside, both models combine predominantly dark finishes with red and grey detailing. Junior receives dedicated door and seat panels, Luna Rossa badging and graphics across the dashboard and centre tunnel, while the Tonale has premium-fabric seats with Luna Rossa logos, grey stitching and black detailing around the centre console, doors and air vents.
One of the more interesting features is the use of 3D Knit upholstery. Derived from technology more commonly associated with activewear, the three-dimensional fabric is manufactured using continuous-thread processing, allowing the upholstery to be produced from fewer components while reducing material use and manufacturing waste.
The sailing theme continues in the Junior with graphics inspired by the structure of sails across the dashboard fascia and centre tunnel. Tonale interprets the same idea through its ambient lighting, which incorporates a geometric pattern. Both receive aluminium sports pedals and Alfa Romeo kick plates, with multicoloured ambient lighting also standard on Junior.
As befits their position at the top of the range, both cars come with a substantial standard specification. Alfa Connect incorporates a 10.25-inch touchscreen, satellite navigation, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, alongside Alfa Romeo’s familiar ‘cannocchiale’ digital instrument display.
Keyless operation, electrically folding and heated mirrors, automatic climate control, Passive Entry and the Alfa DNA selector are included. Hybrid versions also gain steering-wheel paddle shifters. Heated front seats, an electrically adjustable driver’s seat with lumbar adjustment and massage function, a heated steering wheel and electrochromic rear-view mirror are also standard.
Driver assistance equipment includes Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control, automatic emergency braking, lane keeping assistance, traffic sign recognition and driver attention monitoring. Junior adds Blind Spot Monitoring, parking sensors and a reversing camera, while Tonale features front and rear parking sensors, a reversing camera and Brembo sports brakes with red calipers.
Junior Edizione Luna Rossa will be offered with both Hybrid and Electric powertrains. The Ibrida uses the 145hp 1.2-litre three-cylinder turbo engine with six-speed eDCT transmission. The Elettrica produces 156hp from its 115kW electric motor, with a 54kWh battery providing a claimed WLTP range of up to 255 miles.
Tonale is available with the full range of powertrains. These include the 270hp Plug-In Hybrid Q4, combining a 1.3-litre four-cylinder engine, six-speed automatic transmission and Q4 all-wheel drive, with an electric-only WLTP range of 38 miles. The 175hp 1.5-litre Hybrid with seven-speed TCT automatic transmission is also available.
Giulia and Stelvio Edizione Luna Rossa
For Giulia and Stelvio, Alfa Romeo has taken a more overtly sporting approach, making extensive use of carbon fibre and drawing a closer visual connection between the cars and Luna Rossa’s high-performance sailing technology.
White is the standard exterior colour, with black and Etna Red also available. Carbon-fibre mirror caps carry the Luna Rossa logo, while the red Alfa Romeo badges continue the theme established by Junior and Tonale. Carbon fibre is also used for the front badge, and the Giulia receives side skirts and a rear spoiler influenced by those of the Quadrifoglio.
Giulia runs on dark 19-inch wheels and Stelvio on 21-inch wheels, both accompanied by red brake calipers.
The interiors are largely monochrome, punctuated by the red Luna Rossa line running across the seats and carbon-fibre dashboard trim. Leather is combined with 100 per cent recycled ECONYL fabric, produced using regenerated nylon which includes material derived from fishing nets recovered from the seabed.
Leather-trimmed dashboard and door panels are joined by extended carbon-fibre trim across the dashboard, centre console and doors. A red Alfa Romeo badge appears on the steering wheel, while Luna Rossa graphics provide another link with the sailing team.
Standard equipment includes a Harman Kardon audio system and electronically controlled suspension. An electric sunroof is standard on Giulia and optional on Stelvio.
For the UK, both Giulia and Stelvio Edizione Luna Rossa will be powered by the 280hp 2.0-litre petrol engine.
More than a sponsorship deal
Perhaps the most intriguing part of the Alfa Romeo and Luna Rossa relationship is what is happening behind the scenes.
Alfa Romeo’s simulator technology and the expertise developed by its engineers in simulation, vehicle dynamics and virtual analysis are now being used by the Luna Rossa technical team. Aerodynamic loads generated by the yacht are fed into virtual analysis, allowing engineers to study complex behaviour and explore potential improvements before moving to physical testing.
Alfa Romeo is also contributing to the control software for the systems which operate Luna Rossa’s sails. Software can initially be tested virtually in the Luna Rossa simulator before being transferred to the real yacht for evaluation by its crew.
It is an unusual transfer of expertise from automotive development to America’s Cup racing, but one where both teams are pursuing essentially the same objective: using simulation to understand complex dynamic systems and find performance improvements before committing to physical testing.
The relationship between Alfa Romeo and Luna Rossa was announced in June 2025 and has steadily developed since then. Members of the sailing team competed in the 43rd 1000 Miglia aboard a 1956 Alfa Romeo 1900 Super Sprint from the Heritage Hub collection, normally displayed at the Alfa Romeo Historical Museum in Arese.
The first road-car result of the partnership, the Giulia Quadrifoglio Luna Rossa, was subsequently unveiled at the Brussels Motor Show before appearing at the Ultimate Supercar Garage in Paris.
Attention now turns to Naples and the second Preliminary Regatta on the road to the 2027 America’s Cup. Six teams will compete over four days in AC40 foiling yachts, giving the crews another opportunity to develop their handling, tactics and organisation ahead of racing the larger AC75s in 2027. The Giulia Quadrifoglio Luna Rossa will also be displayed during the Naples event.
The Naples event follows the first Preliminary Regatta in Cagliari in May, where the Luna Rossa Senior Team took the overall title after beating Emirates Team New Zealand in the final.
