August 2023 Meeting

Wessex
4 August 2023

For our August meeting, we returned to Pamphill Hall, an interesting old wooden building with a skittle alley near Kingston Lacy.   Ian and Joanne Brookfield provided the food again and this year, instead of a BBQ, they served up a delicious dish of pasta and meatballs with tomato and mushroom sauce.   Given the weather, this proved to be an inspirational choice as we were able to eat indoors after the afternoon’s torrential rain !

An excellent turnout of 26 individuals brought along an array of 13 Alfa Romeos (and a small number of cars of lesser marques !).  We welcomed new member, Adrian Lawrence, who arrived in his beautiful white 939 Spider.

After the meal, we moved to the skittle alley where a lengthy knockout tournament of “Killer” ensued with the number or participants slowly reducing to eventually produce a winner.   Congratulations to our winner, Tony Abbott, who won a bottle of wine !

We should also give credit to Gareth Firth for delivering the ball of the night.  This skewed rapidly into the skittle alley side rail, from where it bounced in the air, returned to the alley and precisely took out the one remaining skittle !

Thank you to everyone who came along and, in particular, many thanks to Ian and Joanne for the excellent food.
