AROC at Silverstone Festival 2024 (Aug 23rd)
Over 30 Alfas turned up on day 1 of this year’s edition of Silverstone Festival (previously known as Silverstone Classic).
Glorious day, plenty of action on track and also the perk of having our Club’s reserved parking area that would ultimately serve as the starting point of the lap parade, which our Club Manager managed to put a strong case for, given the Club’s 60th birthday; at least for me, it was itself an experience being able to enter the gates of such an important venue with four wheels, rather than being on foot.
Great to see again known faces, as well as having the opportunity to meet for the first time members with Alfas different from the Giulias (952), opportunity that came along while I was operating as the Club’s parking assistant.
Back to the lap parade: with all Alfa owners (who’d previously signed up to take part) diligently handing over all the necessary paperwork, while neatly lining up on a dummy grid at Brooklands, we were then told that, regrettably, the planned track session (for us and all other Clubs also involved) would no longer take place, courtesy of a historic car that had earlier decided, right at the end of the Wellington straight, to dump on the track all of the content of its oil sump; the cleaning process had taken so long that the organisers had ran out of time to let us in… what a shame!
That was the only disappointment of the day, as all the rest represented a great experience; Nick: please push again next year for our track outing!
