AROC NE 2018TT North Pennines Run
This year’s North East Section Treasure Trail started at Beamish Hall Hotel near the big open-air museum.
A poor weather forecast put off one or two members, but the weather turned out to be somewhat better than anticipated. The route headed over the Pennines and back with the usual spectacular countryside that we are blessed with in this part of the country, with one or two clues to confound the competitors being spread along the way. Beckleberry’s ice cream could be sampled at Maxine’s Café and one or two drivers noticed a ‘Slow Down’ sign for red squirrels. Alexanders of Teesside sponsored the event with a couple of prizes. No team managed to get all the answers correct or the same answers, but the scoring was still keenly sought and the event came down to a tie-break question about one of the items spotted en-route. So David Graham in his Mito, with Russell Taylor as navigator, had to settle for second place to Phil Brown and Mike Johnson in their 156 sportwagon, who took this year’s winner’s trophy. Mike and Jane Frenette finished third.
