The 12 Year Dream Achieved!
After many years of being influenced by my Dad owning many Alfas in my childhood i was bound to catch the Alfisti Bug! My first Alfa was an Alfa Romeo Brera 2.4 when I was 19, let’s just say i thought I’d won the lottery driving that car at such a young age! 240bhp tuned by Gus in St Helens so it pulled the way it should. I believe I did around 34,000 in 2 and a half years so it’s fair to say I enjoyed the Brera.
Sadly it had to come to an end as I needed something a tad cheaper as I was starting Uni 2 and a half hours away in Coventry. So the Brera got traded for a lease deal car and the Alfa’s got put on hold for around 3 years.
Uni complete I graduated in 2020 (yes the worst time as I didn’t even have a ceremony I graduated through zoom 😂) and I needed to get back into something that excited me and kept me busy! Luckily there was an AD for a stunning Alfa Romeo GTV Cup, number 30 in a small garage in Aberdeen. I’ve always loved the GTV but never thought I’d be able to stretch to the Cup, but with the times we all had in 2020 I thought it would be the safer option for my money as I knew they’d be an appreciating asset in the future. I paid £12,995 for the Cup which would be a bargain in today’s market (between £16k-£24k nowadays!) and the journey began. I flew to Aberdeen the next week to pick it up and drive it straight home to Manchester, it was the best way to get equated with the car that’s for sure.
I did pretty much anything I could with the Cup, near enough every Alfa Show, Meet and Drives out which meant I added just short of 30k miles to it in 2 and a half years 😂 but I absolutely adored the Cup. The sound, the drive, everything I wanted with that masterpiece of an engine visible at any opportunity I had haha.
In my mind the ultimate Alfa was always the 4C. I even had a poster of the 4C on my Uni Flat wall just incase I started to loose motivation. I didn’t think I had a chance of getting a 4c for a number of years yet so I had my heart set on making the GTV the best one out there, it gained so much popularity on Instagram/Youtube. People would always approach the car at shows saying either I follow you on instagram or this is the car that made me buy my Wizard Exhaust! It was always so rewarding meeting people who genuinely just loved the content I was posting, as well as praising me for driving a car like that so many miles haha.
Where things started to change was on an AROC organised drive meeting a 4C owner who was kind enough to show me around the car and basically reassure me that they’re not as scary to run/afford as people may perceive. After being around the 4C for many years I felt like this was the first time I could justify such a purchase, so that’s when the search started!
Months went buy before I actually made the decision to go for the 4C, which meant the GTV had no choice but to be sold to fund it. I wish I could of had both but the Cup did its job and held its value even making me a profit after 3 years and 30+k miles, so it was definitely the right choice to stretch to the Cup. I had the Cup for sale for a couple of weeks and it had a lot of interest! But no one bit the bullet and the longer I had it for sale for the more I was justifying keeping it and not going for the 4C. But I found the add for a stunning Rosso Competizione 4C for sale not too far from me for sale as a private sale. As I was looking at the advert already starting to fall for it I noticed a part that said ‘open to trades with cash my way’ which seemed to be too perfect to be true.
I messaged the owner with pictures of the Cup and all the information and he also fell for the GTV, literally the next day I took it over to show him and to view the 4C for the first time. I tried my absolute best to not get too excited, as I already had a 4C opportunity fall though a few months prior and i was absolutely gutted! Sadly this deal seemed to be similar at first as the owner wasn’t 100% on the decision because he’d already owned a GTV in the past, albeit a standard V6. For me the hunt continued but a couple of days later I got a message which changed it all, the deal was back on as he’d done the research on all the stuff I’ve done, realised it’s a mega example and the cash his way was still good. Deal done!
12 years of dreaming and I was 2 days away from picking up my very own 4C. As you can expect I had near zero sleep the night before and so much excitement for the day of collection. I prepped the GTV for sale just wondering and hoping I’m making the right choice, as it’s a huge commitment for a car that is as quirky and ‘undailyable’ as the 4C is. All it took to seal the deal on my decision was me pulling away from the owners house to realise what’s actually happened and I had ZERO regrets!
Every day since I’ve pinched myself knowing I have the access to such a beauty of a car, not just to look at but a country road killer! It’s only been 10 months of ownership as it stands (March 2026 now) and I’ve already done 15,000 miles! I’m taking any opportunity to just get out and drive, North Wales has been visited countless times. It’s been to Brooklands, NAD, Brands Hatch, Northern Italian day and the list goes on.
I was always worried about driving and living with the 4C but it genuinely feels like it’s a car made for what I need. The looks, the badge and the theatre that it has just being sat in traffic results in absolutely zero regret in my decision!
I plan on doing a tonne more miles this year, even taking the car to the Nurburgring and Spa this year which is going to be a pinch me moment after watching YouTube videos 10+ years ago of SeenThoughGlass with his 4C on the Eurotunnel. Now it’s my turn and I won’t take any of it for granted!
I hope you’ve enjoyed the small but necessary story to realise how long this has been the dream, and I hope you find a car that can make you feel like this too because there is nothing better!
