Out and about
First major road trip concludes after a little over 2000 miles to and around Scotland, in April/May 2026.
Other than one of the rear indicator bulb contacts being temperamental, fixed on the first day in a layby, she ran flawlessly all over Scotland. We were blessed with good weather and so the hood was down for the vast majority of our trips. For a 23 year old car, she seemed to enjoy her second lease of life after being holed up in a potato barn for 6 years!
History
I purchased this car from Neil at Italia Autos in October 2025 after it had been recommisioned from at least 6 years of storage in a potato barn. At some point in its life it has had some work done with regards to its paintwork and had clearly been well looked after.
The recommisioning involved changing the cambelt, spark plugs, oil etc however various smaller items needed to be sourced or sorted out to restore her to a good standard. Those who know me, know that I like to have eveything in working order, and so I set about completing the following in no particular order:
- Central locking - bowden cable fix
- Refitted fusebox cover
- Installed a single DIN car radio
- Door trim seals
- All badges replaced or refurbished and reinstalled
- Dashboard bulbs replaced
- Sidelights fixed
- Front fog lights fixed
- Respray of the grille
- Fixed loose door alignment pin
- Replaced the centre storage comparment
- Fixed the boot light
- Fitted a boot swivel badge return spring
- Realigned drivers side wing panel
- Fitted rear quarter trim pieces
- Had the exhaust front flex pipe replaced and welded
- Replaced Gear knob
- Adjusted glitchy soft top tonneau flap
- Replaced electric aerial with working original
- Replaced drivers side fog lamp assembly
- Replaced door speakers and centre subwoofer
- Replaced Clutch master and slave cylinders after slave failure
- Replaced slam panel
Next on the list is rear brake pads, a new radiator and accompanying support bracket.
Since buying her, she's travelled just over 6,000 miles in 6 months and is a good runner on the whole, except for the pesky slave cylinder!
