Collection Day !!!! cloverleaf

We purchased our 33 Veloce Cloverleaf back in November 2022, nervous moments as not only were the roads horrendous to get there, we also had a few issues trying to load her onto the trailer, mainly due to the front splitter.

Finally loaded and on our way home.

This Alfa Romeo 33 had been off the road for 17 years, with only 56k miles on her, dry stored for most of these years, so lots of work anticipated to get her back up and running

Welcome to our Alfa family "Georgia"

Carbs and engine corrections… cloverleaf

We decided to put her back to original, previous owners had changed the set up, so we put the carburettor system back to original, thankfully these were all in the boot of the 33, apart from a few little things.

Really didn't like the previous set up as she was sounding a bit rough and not running right.

Few hours later and the diffference was just amazing, the pick up on her was so different, so much better.

And the Boxer engine sound was back

Badge…. cloverleaf

She was missing the badge, trying to locate one brand new took some time.

Finally managed to find one in America, as far as we are aware, he had the last 2 remaining brand new ones.

After putting the badge on, we thought we should buy the other one, just in case it came off, but it was sold.

Badge better stay on now hehe

Alloys…. cloverleaf

We never really thought that the Momo alloys looked right, and we were lucky enough to have a set of alloys in the garage from the 155, but they needed a refurb...

So we then did a vote on social media to see which alloys looked better, using clever photography skills to line the alloy's up against the Alfa, and everyone voted for the new ones .

Neighbours must have thought we were crazy.

So we then had the set from our 155 refurbed, fitted and now she looks much better.

Boot struts… cloverleaf

Another job was the boot struts had deteriorated over the years, and for a few months we would use a chunk of wood to hold her up (the old fashioned way)

Sourced new, and replaced.

No more wood support... win win...

Interior Valet… cloverleaf

We had a professional valet done just on the interior, the difference was absolutely amazing, from very dull red carpets back to new again, very impressed with the work done.

Electrical stuff…. cloverleaf

The cooling fans weren't kicking in when they should, so temperature would go into the red, booked in a professional and they found one of the wires had split.

Fixed, now working fans, phew, no more sweating in traffic.

Neither of the reverse lights were working, diagnosed as a fault with the reverse switch on the gear box.

Fixed, now working, at least we won't run anyone over now... in reverse.

Re position steering wheel, as slightly offset and the horn would go off every time when you went round a corner.

Replaced faulty oil light sensor & radiator temperature sensor.

Number Plates… cloverleaf

We wanted to change the number plates, so it didn't state something silly like "Bobs Burgers" at the bottom.

We had them reproduced using an Italian car company.

Loved them that much, we had our other 2 Alfa's replaced too.

Service including cambelt… cloverleaf

Full service including, cambelt, water pump, air filter, oil change, spark plugs, alternator belt, just to be on the safe side, as wasn't too sure if this had been done before.

Replaced the distributor cap & rotor arm as it was partly broken inside, replaced all the HT leads.

Just had to sell the house to pay for it.

Huge thanks go to The Sud Shop for sourcing all the parts & huge thanks to our mechanic Tod Oliver Davies, who has come round so many times to work on her.

Also a big thank you to Martyn Wreford, Alex Poulter for the help and advice.

And not forgetting Jason Goss for bringing our 33 home.

First MOT… cloverleaf

We put her in for MOT once we had completed everything, keeping fingers and toes crossed, thinking they are bound to find lots of things wrong (always best to think the worst, right)

She failed....

But only on 1 thing..... just 1, wow, you can't imagine our faces after being told it was just an imbalance on the rear brakes.

Drum brakes stripped and cleaned...

Passed MOT

Car show winner…. cloverleaf

Our first car show, so many beautiful classic cars, what we didn't know is that they were holding a competition.

So towards the end of the day, everyone was called to the main area, where unbelievably they announced that the winner of the show goes to the black Alfa Romeo 33.

We were both shocked, but also very very happy, what a day that was...

A lovely gentlemen spent most of the day chatting with us, bringing back memories of his childhood with his father.

We purchased the original certificate of authenticity from Italy, which we now have framed.

This is what we love, bringing memories to others, and also making new ones for us.
