History cloverleaf

I purchased this Alfasud in March of 2023 and it had just 47,561 genuine miles on the clock.  Like many Alfisti, my first Alfa, was a 'Sud, as was my 2nd.  That was followed by 2 Sprints and no less than 3 33's and another Alfasud.   This was all 20 years or more ago.  I've always fancied another, but my favourite is actually a model i'd never owned before - a simple plastic bumper SC.   Despite owning 2 Ti's I'm not actually a fan of the bodykit and prefer the cleaner lines of the non ti models.    I also prefer the plastic bumper cars over the chrome as these were more predominant in my youth.     I had no real plans to buy another but one evening in March 2023 I was browsing the Collecting Cars website and saw this Alfasud and almost immediately knew I had to have it.   At the time of wrting the advert is still live: https://collectingcars.com/for-sale/1983-alfa-romeo-alfasud-sc-1-5

I have 2 folders full of paperwork and history of the car largely pulled together by the previous owner Mr Bill Hibbert who had the car for 34 years before I acquired it.  The history of this car is what largely made me buy it online without even seeing it.

Sadly the name of the first owner on Guernsey is not known.   Including this mystery owner I am now the 6th owner - it changed hands frequently prior to Bill acquiring it in 1989.   I have tax discs dating back to 1993, but the car is now registered as an Historic Vehicle and so is free of Vehicle Excise Duty and no longer requires an MOT (but I will keep those up).

The mileage is genuine and thanks to Bill I have documentation to prove - he kept meticulous records of everything.   In 1994 the car was subject to a major restoration by Westune Auto Services of Bolton.   I'm led to believe that this was the last car restored by Westune before the closed the business.   It's a testament to Westune and then to Bill for the condition this car is in.

The restoration and subsequent conditon of the car led it winning a class win at Northern Alfa Day in 1995.  Then on 27th July 1997, Bill took 1st overall in the Northern Alfa Day Concurs held at Nostell Priory.   I've a copy of AROC magazine No.5 1997 with a picture of Bill with the car receiving his award.

Just prior to that win, the car had an MOT on the 5th July at 45,953 milles.   Sadly it then went on to do very little mileage between MOT's, but it was MOT'ed without fail every year.

When I acquired the car, I asked L&M Italian Car Services of Medmenham, Buckinghamshire to service the car and generally give it a good going over and I also had them apply new underseal as I wanted to enure the car was fully preserved.    With so little mileage under its belt in recent times it needed a fair amount of work in addition to the general service, most critically both front brakes needed overhauling and it needed new shocks at the front - thankfully I managed to locate some NOS koni's.    In addition I had them fit a set of lowering springs from SudShop and add the Revolution Wheels which I sourced.    This work took a few months due to finding parts, but I picked it up in early August and then almost immediately took it to the AROC Sprint Day at Curborough!
