History
We bought "Suzie Spider" in 1993 and carried out a relatively light restoration so we could use her for European holidays. We had many enjoyable trips over the next 20 years, and the only mechanical problem was a blown head gasket. Some welding was required from time to time to pass the MOT test but no major problems.
By 2012 a close inspection of the sills revealed serious rot and it was time for a major refurbishment. Heaps of new panels were obtained and the car partially dismantled ready for the bodyshop. The work was completed in 2014, just in time for her 40th birthday!
Restoration
I stripped the car back to a rolling shell so I could deliver it to the bodyshop for them to do the necessary work. Here is the car with new door skin and sills ready for fitting. Same was required on the other side!
Load of Rot!
As you can see, lots of rusty stuff needed to be cut away before the new sills were welded in.
Ready for the Paint Shop
After much blood, sweat and tears, the welding was complete and the car was ready for painting.
Primer done
Here you can see the primer coat applied.
Yellow Peril!
Two pack paint applied in the original Giallo Pagoda (as near as it could be matched)
Back on the Road
Finally back on the road 18 months after being delivered to the bodyshop. I did the mechanical work myself, but the welding and painting I left to the experts! The car is on display here at the Scottish Italian Car day before we moved to the new location at Hopetoun House
