The Car
Started as a GT1600 Junior produced on July 21st 1972 and originally registered DAU 84L coloured Biancospino (Hawthorn white - literally spiny white) with Tessuto Plastificato Nero interior (erm...black plastic). Bought by me in July 2007 from a Classic & Sportscar magazine staff member. The gearbox failed 3 days later.
A previous owner had fitted a handling kit, lowering the suspension. They had also fitted an upgraded 1962cc engine from a 2000GTV, I fitted a set of Melber major wheels (my favourites on this car) from my previous 105 car.
The car appeared a few times in the magazine 'running reports' section. At the time of buying, I remember being mildly disappointed at the white colour. But since then have come to love it, largely on the basis that it's nice to see one occasionally that isn't red. It also carries the current vinyl Italian stripes nicely.
I ran the car for many years regularly until an unfortunate incident in 2015 (see 'journeys' section below for details) prompted a full body rebuild, done to a very high standard.
A slightly tired engine was replaced with a newly rebuilt race engine with head and cam upgrades (built for HSCC classics but never used) from Willie Dick in the midlands. It's been variously dyno tested at 150, 155 and 160hp. Running standard Dellorto carbs, standard GT Junior 4.55 diff with LSD gripper installed, standard stainless exhaust. She'd easily pull a longer diff and revs at motorway speed are higher than they could be, but honestly, its so much more fun with low gearing.
Unfortunately a carb issue was dumping raw fuel down cylinders 1&2 and so quite soon the carbs needed a full professional rebuild and the pistons, liners, bearings and crank were all replaced (Again).
