Summary
The Montreal (named for its original incarnation as the show car for World Expo 1967 in the city) was designed by the legendary late Marcelo Gandini after the Lamborghini Miura and shares many design cues. My childhood love of the car came from its appearance in many Trump card sets.
The car is in its original 1970's orange (trump card memories again, it had to be!) to my mind the best of the many lurid 1970s colours available. It’s RHD making it very rare. 180 made with maybe 100 surviving, of the approximately 3900 production total.
I’ve owned it for about 20 years, during which time it’s been the subject of a bare metal restoration. Goodwood wanted to film it for their Goodwood Greats series with Alex Brundle but insurance issues got in the way. Recently seen in the GRRC 2025 Almanac from display at one of several Goodwood events it's been invited to.
The 2.6L V8 engine derived from Alfa’s very successful 33 series World Sports Car championship cars (& rather less successful McLaren & March F1), with a Spika mechanical fuel injection system, was unique to the Montreal and never appeared in any other road car.
In summary, the way I describe it everyone. It’s orange, it’s rare, it’s an Alfa Romeo, it’s fabulous.
Restoration
The mechanical work restoration and ongoing maintenance of the car is undertaken by Andy Blue of Blues Autos on Brockley, South London (020 8469 2400). The best Montreal guru in the country (along with Rob Thomson further north).
The body restoration was by RD Restorations Ltd of Redhill 07973 500123.
If I can find a way to add photos here, I'll do that eventually.
