Summary
I have known this Alfa Romeo since it was new, the Alfetta GTV 2000 originally being bought new by an Italian family friend, Toni Genna. He picked me up from school in the car and I still remember my first journey in it as an impressionable 10 year old. I was both terrified and excited by the experience of being driven, as only a Sicilian does in his brand new Italian sports car.
Tony loved & cherished the GTV for many years until 1997, when the ongoing battle with rust seemed to be a lost one, with the car being consigned to his garage. In 2002 Toni decided to let the car go and a deal was done, for the price of a meal and a case of Italian red wine.
It was then subject to a bare metal restoration with horrors at every turn. It was still a most worthwhile project if not an economically viable one. The car was fully mechanically rebuilt with the bodywork requiring seven more attention. Once complete, the GTV has proven an absolute joy to drive, with outstanding handling and free revving engine. It is used as my daily driver in the summer months.
I've now had the car longer than Toni did, but it will always be Toni's GTV.
Restoration
The car was subject to a bare metal restoration in 2001 (ish) by RD Restorations Ltd in Redhill, Surrey. 07973 500123.
If I can ever work out how to add more photos here I shall!
Over the 25 years I've had it, it's needed very little work ,but did have a light refresh of minor body/paint issues in 2025
