Welcome
The Alfa Romeo 4C (Type 960) is a small, mid-engined, rear-wheel-drive sports car currently in production at the Maserati plant in Modena, Italy. The car, available as a coupe or spider, is characterised by extreme light weight (less than 900 Kg in models for the European market) due to its carbon-fibre tub and aluminium sub-frames.
The 4C is Alfa Romeo’s first take of a sports car since The Alfa Romeo 8C production in 2010 where they only sold 500 of the coupe and another 500 of the spider model despite Alfa Romeo recieving over 1400 orders. And the name scheme refers to the number of cylinders in the corresponding configuration located in the engine, therefore the 8C having a V8 engine and the 4C having a 4 cylinded engine. So hopefully in the near to distant future we will see a 6 cylinder engined car appropriately named the 6C.
Since being released the car has once numerous awards such as the What Car? Reader Award for ‘The Most Exciting Car To Be Launched in 2013’ and an australian magazine WhicCar Australia Named the car ‘The Most Stylish Car for 2016’. Aswell as awards Teh Alfa Romeo 4C, on the 12 of September 2013, it became the world fastest production car with under 247bhp round the Nürburgring with a time of 8 minutes and 4 seconds, set by Driver Horst von Saurma. This Beats the times of The BMW M3 E92 and almost four seconds faster than a Renaultsport Mégane 265 Trophy.
During the SBK (World Super Bike Championship), The 4c was used as an official safety car and it has been this way since the 2013 season.
Due to the US safety regulations the 4C had to modified to meet the US standard this includes a change to the headlight housing with a plastic casing over the lights similar to the 4C Spider, The US model also includes extra bracing and strengthening by putting aluminum inserts into the 4C’s carbon fiber chassis. This resulting in a 100kg weighn increase.
The car first appeared as a concept at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show and made its UK debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in June of the same year.
