Club Trips 2021

Following BREXIT, travel to all European destinations will now undoubtedly be more complicated (and costly!).  However, it is hoped that this in itself will not deter club members from travelling to experience some of the wonderful events that take place in Europe each year.  Although Covid-19 vaccines are now being rolled out, it is possible that travel restrictions may still be in place in some countries until the autumn or beyond!

Sadly, my own health took a turn for the worse at the beginning of November last year, when I picked up a rare bacterial infection.  Following emergency surgery and a lengthy spell in hospital (with further treatment being necessary in the coming weeks), it will be several months yet before I am fully recovered.  Therefore (regrettably), I will not be able to organise the usual trips to either Germany or the Netherlands this year.  However, for anyone wishing to travel independently to either of these events, I will still provide all of the necessary information and details of hotels to enable people to stay in the same location.

The only organised event that I will be organising this year, is the trip to Ireland in October.  This trip was “ready to go” for October last year, but sadly the Covid-19 restrictions put in place (both in Britain and Ireland) meant that the trip was unable to go ahead as planned.  All details remain the same for this year, although the price may increase slightly as I will have to re-negotiate with both the hotel and ferry company!

49th OLDTIMER GRAND PRIX, Nurburgring, Germany (12th – 17th August)
4 or 5 night trip to Germany (fewer or greater number of nights also possible).  NO ORGANISED TRIP THIS YEAR
Accommodation will be in a small family run hotel in the picturesque medieval town of Bad Munstereifel in the Eifel region of Germany.   A double room will cost approximately €100 / night and single room €65 / night (including breakfast).  You are free to choose your own Channel crossing by ferry or Eurotunnel.

SPETTACOLO SPORTIVO, Netherlands (29th July – 3rd August)
4 or 5 night trip to The Netherlands (fewer or greater number of nights also possible).  NO ORGANISED TRIP THIS YEAR
In 2020, the Dutch SCARB Club were intending to celebrate 90 years of the legendary Italian coach-building firm Pininfarina, which, of course, has had a long association with Alfa Romeo.   The Spettacolo Sportivo was also scheduled to celebrate 25 years of the Alfa 916 GTV and Spider model ranges.  It is likely that these aspects will still be a feature for 2021.
Dates have now been set by SCARB for this year’s event as Saturday 31st July & Sunday 1st August, but whether the event is actually able to go ahead will be subject to any applicable Dutch government coronavirus restrictions at that time.

27th annual trip to Ireland (7th – 12th  October)
5 night trip to Ireland (fewer or greater number of nights also possible).
For many, this trip has become one of the highlights of the annual calendar of events.
This year, we shall be basing ourselves in the medieval City of Kilkenny.  Apart from all of the attractions in the City itself, this location is very convenient for visiting many other places in the “Viking Triangle” and the wider South-East corner of Ireland.
Our accommodation will be in a centrally located 4-star hotel.  Ferry crossings will be available from either Holyhead – Dublin, or Pembroke – Rosslare, with onward travel from either port of disembarkation being just a little over 1 hour.  Early booking is recommended as space is limited.

Anyone interested in participating in any of the above trips should contact Nick Clancy as soon as possible for further information.
