This year the Surrey Section 30-mile drive will be taking a scenic route through Surrey and Hampshire to the Hollycombe Steam in the Country Museum (https://www.hollycombe.co.uk/). We will be leaving from our regular Section Meeting venue of The Seahorse pub in Shalford (GU4 8BU).
Hollycombe offers an opportunity to relive the past era of steam with a steam railway, Golden Gallopers, Steam Swings and tranquil woodland gardens. Some of you may remember that we last visited Hollycombe in 2015 for a “Family Day”. This time we have timed the visit to join their Classic Car Gathering on Fathers’ Day, details of which are on their website and also on Fecebook here: https://www.facebook.com/events/354429464309874/
Entry to Hollycombe is normally £25 per adult for unlimited rides or £12 per adult for three rides (these prices include gift aid). Hollycombe has offered a special entry price for those bringing cars to the classic gathering of £11 per car (including gift aid) which also includes unlimited rides for all occupants in the car!
We need to be at Hollycombe for 11:00 to allow time to park cars before it is open to the general public at 11:30. To make sure we are there on time we will be leaving The Seahorse between 09:45 and 10:00 as the drive takes about an hour.
You do not need to stay at Hollycombe if you only wish to join the drive, or you can also join us at Hollycombe if you would prefer to. The three options are:
1. 30-mile drive and Hollycombe (£11 per car)
2. 30-mile drive only not entering Hollycombe at the end of the drive (free)
3. Meet the Section at Hollycombe for the day with steam (£11 per car)
If you are planning on visiting Hollycombe to take advantage of the discount, tickets need to be purchased in advance. Tickets to enter Hollycombe need to be purchased from the Hollycombe site directly. It does say that cars have to be pre-1985 but Hollycombe has agreed to let us include newer cars in our Section display. Tickets are available at https://ticketisland.azurewebsites.net/ticketi_slevent_cal3Full?bi=Hollycombe&slctd=06-16-2024#pos_tag.
I have been advised that Hollycombe will e-mail people to ask if they are part of a club. Please let Hollycombe know that you are part of AROC so we can park together.
The day is from 11:30 to 17:00. Refreshments are available from the Café, where a selection of hot and cold food (to eat-in or take-away), tea, coffee and cold drinks are available. Food is served between 11.30am and 5pm.
Please let me or any member of the committee know if you would like to join this event and which of the three options you wish to take up.
This is a great Fathers’ Day activity that offers something for all the family. I hope that you are able to join us.
