Report: Yorkshire Section Pick’n’Mix Weekend
This, we thought, was something that little bit different in an event lasting all weekend but broken down into a number of separate happenings. As it happens, it all worked out rather well so is the kind of thing that we may well repeat in the coming year.
The weekend incorporated a scenic drive along the North York Moors, a visit to an award-winning Fish and Chips Emporium, an overnight stay at The Park Hotel on Redcar’s seafront and then an East Coast run to visit and participate in The Bridlington Weekend of Motoring at Sewerby Hall on Sunday. Our members were free to join in for as many or as few of the individual happenings as they wished to add to the overall event’s appeal and flexibility.
Saturday Sptember 8
For the first leg of our weekend, we mat up for breakfast at The Engine Shed Cafe at Steam and Moorland Garden Centre in Pickering before we set off on our run through The North York Moors to our destination in Redcar. This was a spectacular run incorporating some lovely drivers’ roads although at times the dense fog on part of our route was also quite spectacular!
Early afternoon for those staying overnight saw us check in to The Park Hotel at Granville Terrace in Redcar before all of our group settled down at our reserved tables for fish and chips at the award-winning Oliver’s Fish & Chip Restaurant. A gentle walk along The Esplanard in Redcar and a visit to a local hostelry or two rounded off our afternoon’s schedule.
Sunday September 9
The second leg of our Tour saw a return for those who were staying overnight to The Park Hotel. The hotel we must admit, although certainly not the most expensive place going, was superb with friendly and courteous staff, a well-stocked bar and an inexpensive but tasty range of food on offer. Overall, a convivial and enjoyable time was had by us all.
Leg 3 of our trip began when we set off from The Park after a hearty breakfast on our run to Bridlington, again skirting the stunning scenery of The North York Moors but this time there was no fog. We arrived in good time at Sewerby Hall and Gardens, altough admittedly though a little later than anticipated courtesy of Sat Nav malfunction which took us to Sewerby Golf Club in error,
Arriving at Sewerby Hall and Gardens we took up our reserved parking spaces at The Bridlington Weekend of Motoring. This is an extremely well-organised Show put on each year in The Est Riding of Yorkshire for petroheads everywhere and the range and number of classic vehicles on display was pretty impressive. On our Alfa Romeo pitch we had quite a selection of cars from a number of eras. They all looked good as the sun shone to make our day even more relaxed and enjoyable and without doubt the weekend was a great success. Look out for somethging similar coming up in 2019.
